AILA has reported a very interesting or confusing DOS LegalNet Office letter which one of the members received towards the fact that the consular posts had already been allocated their numbers for the month of July prior to EB visa numbers becoming unavailable on July 2 and that the posts may continue to use their July allocations of EB numbers, and continue to issue Immigrant Visas for the rest of this month, July, for those applicants who were scheduled for IV interviews in July. Is the SJC convening on 27th to discuss immigration reform? Do you have any more details? The website talks about voting rights?
I just got this off the Immigration-law website"The Chairman Specter called Executive Committee business meeting on April 27, 2006, Thursday, and it is anticipated that the debate on the Judiciary Committee's redrafting of the comprehensive immigration reform bill may take a center stage. Please stay tuned"

But it did not help much. Basically, when you call PBEC if you come across the switch board operator, who usually sits in the forenoon sessions, you will not have any luck at all. She would ask you to send any queries/questions thru your attorney. I called both DOL and PBEC numbers several times. DOL people, while souding helpful, always said that they are helpless. As for PBEC, most times, I ran into this operator who gruffly told me to talk to my lawyer. I did talk to someone other than the switch board operator on a few occassions and they did give me some useful information. I then used that information to pester my attorney to take some action. I found it is generally best to call on Wednesdays/Thursdays during afternoon sessions. This is just my personal observation. In your case, there is nothing wrong in trying, is there? It is better to try and fail than not trying at all...
My LC application with a PD of Dec 2002 has been rotting at PBEC and finally ad for my case started appearing on AJE web site last week. My attorney has not received any thing at all. Mind you, in my case the recruitment efforts were completed long before it was forwarded to PBEC. It is precisely for this reason my application was 'unfit' for conversion to RIR. They now insist upon doing recruitment all over again. Neither my employer nor my attorney is ever involved in thid PBEC recruitment. The horror never ends...
Go ahead and call. You might get lucky and actually talk to the analyst. When you start your conversation do not start off with request for information. Say that you found a problem with your case in screenshot or something like that. Any thing that makes your conversation separate from the rest. Goodluck.

Thanks a lot for the heads up. I'm sure your advice will come in handy tomorrow. I've asked my attorney to call, but they simply won't venture into it and recommend waiting until the end of this month. Finally, I'm taking it in my hands.
I'm sorry to hear your saga. It all boils down to sheer good luck, isn't it? Good luck with your case.

Isnt there a concept of an interim EAD.
I heard if you dont get EAD within 90 days, you can go to your local USCIS office and get an interim EAD?

Its about late registered birth certificate... They want some secondary evidence...
Hi TomTancredo (even though I hate the real Tancredo, you seem to be a good person :)),
This is exactly why I asked you if you could share the details of your RFE. My attorney had asked me to submit affidavits from my parents since I did not have birth ceritificate. Is this the same issue with yours? Could you share the details if you don't mind?
Thank you.

I read so many posts regarding india facing something similar to sub prime mortgage.
US is a very stabilized in terms of homes.
Consider India's growing high earning population.
They will need home to live as cities expand and people will be there to still buy.

I congratulate everyone whoes PD becomes current beginning of next month. But be aware that all of this is no good until USCIS acts on it. USCIS has to match and increase their pace of processing I-140 & I-485s for people to benefit of this movement. There are thousands of people whose PD have been current since April of this year and still they see no movement on their cases. PD becoming current is just the first & crucial step in the this long process, but now it all depends on how well USCIS responds by processing cases in FIFO manner.

Small or medium companies who played by the rules are doing okay. I transferred H1B couple of times between small companies during 2009-10 recession time and in each case it was approved in 2-3 days. Both the companies had a 100% record in H1-transfer and PERM approval.
I believe that small companies have a big impact too. As someone mentioned, check to see which companies filed GCs in the last 10 years....Infy, TCS or Small body shops?

I am sorry for posting in here, but I was wondering if someone actually went in person to the Houston Consulate to get their passport renewed. Also, do we need to have any reason to attend in person at the Consulate such as emergency, etc.
I am from India and my passport is expiring on Aug 17. I read before in the forum that it is better to go in person to renew the passport. Any experiences please let me know.
Thanks a bunch

This makes a lot of sense and so does the fact that GC wait times for EB immigrants be considered as part of citizenship waittime after 140 is appoved.
I think that wait time should be counted from the PD, since it's really not my fault that my stupid LC is pending since 2002! So I don't see why someone waiting with I140 approved since, say 2004, should become a citizen faster then someone who only gets a change to file I140 in 2006. Not fair at all!
Applying for the LC, I believe, is a sufficient proof that a person intends to stay in the country.
