In many states, it is possible to renew your DL online. Why do you have to go to the actual DMV to renew? I think you should be able to avoid a lot of your troubles by applying online.

USCIS has proven again that they cannot calculate or count. Don't you think they should be presented with this calculator to help them calculate.

My opinion is that USCIS does not deserve flowers or calculators. I am in a big favour of sending letters to them and to congress men with some information about what USCIS has been doing. I am also in favour of sending some pamphlets. I have already prepared some. Please see.

I think these guys are just playing with our minds. They know how many applications are pending. At least they have a estimate and idea.
Now they will sit on these pending applications until the end of year and then suddenly move dates 2-3 years ahead and approve some GCs. Few will be happy and most of us will be disappointed.

USCIS to Issue Two-Year EAD for I-485 Waiters at End of June 2008
The Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security announced on 06/09/2008 that the DHS would start issuing two-year EAD beginning from end of June 2008 for the I-485 filers. Hooray!
Announcement: "I'm also pleased to announce that we will be extending the validity period of the employment authorization documents that we issue to individuals who are waiting adjustment of status to lawful permit residenture or in colloquial phrase, the green card. Currently, adjustment applications are granted employment authorization documents with only a one year maximum validity. Beginning later this month, we'll start issuing these documents with a two-year validity period for aliens who are waiting adjustment of status if their application is expected to be pending for more than a year. This, again, is eliminating a persistent source of frustration for workers who are here, who have a pending adjustment application but have to go and renew their employment documents every single year. It's going to cut the paperwork there."

Yes its a very serious issue. As chandu mentioned earlier more action items are coming soon to fight this. But in the meantime please show your support and your willingness to fight this - if you havnt sent the mail yet, please do it and vote in the poll above. When we started this campaign, I though that at least a few hundred people will come forward easily - now is the time to act.

Any one else with recent RFEs/LUDs on their I-485 ? Pl post.
Mine is a NSC-CSC-NSC 485, july 2nd filer, with Apr 2007 EB2 Priority.
I got Hard and soft LUDs on 2/5/09 and 2/10/09 resp.
Hard LUD says, my case is now pending. (before it was 'this case has been transfered ...).
No idea wht the soft LUD means, might be no RFE.
BTW, I used EAD and also filed AC21 thru my lawyer.

are you referring to EB2-India? Without any legislative or administrative changes the chances of reaching 2007 next year are pretty much zero IMO.
If I were to play the prediction game, based on the stats that USCIS released and their own statements in this months VB, this is what I would guess [Q1 meaning Jan-Feb-March: calendar quarter, not USCIS quarter which runs from Sept]:
- Q1 2010 : EB2-I reaches Feb and or early March
>> Reasoning: its already at Jan-end and there are tons of cases in March. because PERM was about to start from April 2005, lots and lots of companies pushed and filed for labor in March. So Jan will be crossed and most likely Feb also. But March is a big hump to cross.
- Q2 2010 : EB2-I goes "unavailable". Probably in May, or in June
>> EB2-India should exhaust its annual quota for the quarter well within the cases from Jan/Feb/early-March. So now the VB would go unavailable.
- Q3 2010 : EB2-I goes to April/May/June-2005 in July, then Dec 2005 by Sept VB.
>> the big spillover of visa starts. Note that spillover has not yet happened. THere is speculation at this point, but traditionally whenever there is spillover (look at last 3 years VB) India and China have the same PD because thats how the visas can spill over equally to both of them. The state dept's own prediction is dates will reach December and thats likely. Note that in their prediction (in the VB) dates for India and China are identical as is expected when spillover takes place. This is the time when the big bump of cases at March should get levelled out.

Agree. I still blame name check 180 rule - a major decision by USCIS/FBI helped this backlogg to go from bad to worst.
Name check 180 rule -it allowed thousands of people from EB1 / EB2 Row to get their 485 cleared and consumed major chunk of 2008/09 EB visas. Had it been not there, many old timers, would have used visas as their Name check would have been cleared before them.
Oh yeah, I hear you; I personally know many of my ex-colleagues in a big IT sourcing company who came to US in L1A got their GC through EB1 category within a matter of 6-8 months.....last years 180 rule change does benefit most of these fortunate guys.....
