Came here in 98. Applied in 2003. Waiting ever since. Had enough of this BS. I was ok until they started screwing around with EAD's and AP's this year. Recently, got a a couple of offers in India ranging from 30 - 45 lac / yr. Thinking of going back. Its not worth waiting in this line anymore.

USCIS to Issue Two-Year EAD for I-485 Waiters at End of June 2008
The Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security announced on 06/09/2008 that the DHS would start issuing two-year EAD beginning from end of June 2008 for the I-485 filers. Hooray!
Announcement: "I'm also pleased to announce that we will be extending the validity period of the employment authorization documents that we issue to individuals who are waiting adjustment of status to lawful permit residenture or in colloquial phrase, the green card. Currently, adjustment applications are granted employment authorization documents with only a one year maximum validity. Beginning later this month, we'll start issuing these documents with a two-year validity period for aliens who are waiting adjustment of status if their application is expected to be pending for more than a year. This, again, is eliminating a persistent source of frustration for workers who are here, who have a pending adjustment application but have to go and renew their employment documents every single year. It's going to cut the paperwork there."

July 2nd filers can expect their receipts by Friday(8/10) or Monday(8/13). It will take 3 days for them to just process July 2nd receipts.

If this is true ,we are happy.Atleast ,they are going to enter our applications in the system(atleast they are not lost).But,waiting till weekend is quite narrow.What if the application gets rejected and we have no time to refile??Anyways,was the 2nd july filers date a prediction or did u get the info from a reliable source?

Not trying to be pessimitic her but any new hires will need to be trained, and infrastructure need to be set up. All these things do not happen overnight.
Also, there are dependancies. I-485 information needs to be entered in the system and A # on I-140 need to be crosschecked. If one is not available already then it needs to be generated.
All these add to the time.
You are not pessimistic. I know how federal contracting happens. If I am the federal contractor to USCIS and I have a contract with them. Lets say contract 's scope of work to process 485, 140, 765, 131 apps. USCIS can always add money to existing contract and ask for more man hours for the contract year. Most of the time Federal Installations have extra space to accomodate new temp resources.
So in 2-3 months they can add more resources to take care of this shit. But I can say for sure that dont expect EAD or AP in 3 months.

Many H1s like me have their non-working spouses on H4 visa who are not given SSNs. Do we not pay taxes ? Do we not pay Social security ? We do, and therefore we should also be eligible for the Stimulus package. Indeed my son is autistic and disabled but we are not eligible for any kind of aid but we pay tons of taxes and social security. It is highly non-justified think. I know people will argue a lot if it is compared to slavery. But it is a "modern form of slavery". Yes, we are in this country with our own will but that is what they are making use of.
Please blame the illegals who use ITIN 1)to file taxes 2) to show that they were present in US.
They use this as a legal document and their best bet if amnesty is provided.

Preparing for future is one thing but if you think that this is a valuable thread then go with it and enjoy, i just find it disheartening that people are trying to undermine whatever has been achieved by such threads (Like i said, he might be completely right but is there a need to tell it this way) and what are you going to prepare for the future ;) Do you know it ? (If you do, please keep it to yourself and enjoy or cry about it). Right now, i want to be positive and enjoy the fruits of what IV has done to get some relief, why use negative logic to undermine it and that is what i am saying. she is not stupid!! she is right. Your GC and H1 is being sponsored by the employer not by you. All documents etc are indeed the property of the employer. It is the employer's responsibility to keep you updated of any changes in your status.

Desi we definitely need to get clarification on this. Can you post a message with interpretations from differnet lawyers? Maybe we can get more people to ask their lawyers like Fragomen, Shusterman, Siskind ..... we will then match.

Given that IV was majorly instrumental in reversing the July fiasco, the least I could do was contribute money.
I am also planning to contribute time by volunteering for Texas state chapter activities.

There are those who are undecided or who cannot find enough energy/motivation to do something, and those people need motivation. You don't fall in that category. You maybe right. Visa numbers are being wasted because of the pressure being put by people wanting their notices. So many people are calling everyday distracting the USCIS employees. Intead of blaming USCIS for it, tracker thread people should also introspect and also be willing to share some of the blame. :D
